Bear KZN sea conditions report Croc Couta Amberjack Dorado Sailfish

Well conditions have been trying to come right and there have been one or two good days out on the water however 3 day’s of NE wind has milled the inshore and picked up the swell.

We have severe thunderstorm warnings for Eastern Cape tonight and south coast tomorrow and Richards bay area tomorrow night! Windy shows the system moving offshore and windguru shows zilch rain for Durban so let’s hope this one skips us!

Sea temps are averaging 22 degC up and down the Coast with temps reaching 23 degC offshore. NS current is onnit half a knt off Durban and flying on the Aliwal shoal at 1.6knt !

Ideal conditions for big Couta and Amberjack which enjoy the strong current and a solid Thermocline. There’s been Dorado and Billfish out on the Fads off Durban as well with river water inshore pulling Mirror fish and Seapike into the shallows.

With fish this week we have Declan O’Connor backline fishing with a Cape yellowtail Durban, Master Bruce and Zander getting some Mackie’s Indian mirror fish and Seapike, Jackson with a brace of decent Couta off Durban, Shaun Reid from Fishing corner SA with his 1st Croc Couta Umhlanga, Master Garreth Brockett catching some Amberjack and Daga salmon out deep and Master Richardt Botes with a 17kg Couta Durban and a Dorado off Xmas bay! Aweh lad’s lekker feeshies!

Weather for new years day we have the NE wind continuing in the morning switching to a moderate to fresh SW wind in the afternoon. Swell is chunky as well. 2 day’s of SW then the sea settles beautifully for Sunday with minimal wind and a 2m swell from the south.

Sunday is spring tides and tomorrow we have a low tide at 08h00 and high tide at 14h20.
