Hi peeps and welcome to another Bear report brought to you by Mydo bait swimmers.
I am writing this from an extremely windy Durban. A huge cutoff low has moved up from the Cape province and is battering our coastline at a healthy 25 to 30knts!
Luckily we seem to have dodged the bullet with the precipitation for once! However lower south coast and Transkei had quite a bit of rain overnight and earlier this morning with over 160mm recorded by Kevin down in southern Transkei!
Swell is still down locally and not the 4m plus predicted as yet with southern Transkei being battered this morning by 3 m swell. Current as we all probably know is flying SN atm. Sea temps are down with North coast under 21 degC and South coast going as low as 19 degC in spots lower down.
We have a full moon today with spring tides so whatch out for shore damage especially around the high tide at 15h30 today and tomorrow at 16h00. Low is at 09h53 tomorrow morning.
So what’s been happening fish wise? There are plenty Couta around with Crocs inbetween, Snoek and Garrick patrolling the shallows with various Kingfish species coming out as well Daga salmon now making an appearance inshore with all the Sardine activity.
Well done Lincoln with a 5.7kg yellow belly Rockcod Bluff, Gordon with a Garrick Bluff, Leon Peach and Leon Groblaar with Garrick plus bottom fish Isipingo, Noah Whittle with a nice combo Daga salmon and Couta, Kezley Fitzgerald with a decent Snoek Bluff, Keaton Master Liam and Kezley with Couta Bluff, Zander Erasmus and Master Richardt with a slab Cape tail and Croc Couta! Aweh peeps top diving!
SAUFF spearfishing Nationals are set to be held in Durban this year coming up now in July from the 5th to the 11th of July… with all these trophy fish around it looks set to be a banger event! Check pics for official poster. Master Sean Burns can be contacted for further details.
SARDINES have been wild up and down the Coast and the guys even got 40 Crates out this morning in these horrible conditions at Umgababa! We have excellent weather from Friday onwards so there’s still plenty of action to come!
As always dive safe and straight spears from the Bear.
