Bear KZN sea report Warm divable water!

Hi peeps and welcome to another Bear report brought to you by Mydo bait swimmers and silverfish lodge.co.za .

So yes the swell did drop off and warm clean water pushed in off the south coast yesterday (Thursday). The NE wind started early this morning but it looks like it will back off early too. Currently 9knts on the shoal while I write this!

Salties was looking nice and blue today so maybe there’s hope for the north coast peeps to get wet over the weekend and get some early season Mackie’s!

Speaking of Mackie’s the sea temps hovered around 23.5 deg C yesterday and this morning. Temps have dropped a degree or so with the NE wind and prevalent NS current today.

Spring tides ATM with a low at 09h48 and a high at 15h58 tomorrow. A light NE wind blows during the day and swell is around 1.9m at 7 seconds from the NE.

Sunday we have a DR SW wind blowing in the morning at 10knts switching to a S wind around lunchtime at 9knts. Swell start’s at 2m from the NE at 8 second’s and drops to 1.7m later in the day.

So I would say later dive after the low towards high tomorrow and early bells dive on Sunday.

Garrick return run is in full swing down south coast and snoek are making an appearance on the north coast along with the odd single Couta. Brusher are thick from lower north coast to lower south coast as well. Big Stumpies are ALSO around ATM so make sure to target these fine eating fish!

Bear KZN sea report Groundswell Blues

Hi peeps and welcome to another Bear report brought to you by www.silverfishlodge.co.za . Silverfish lodge is located near Inhambane in Mozambique and has some epic reef for pelagic fish on its doorstep!

Online YouTube report available here…
https://youtu.be/jQlsAL9Obrk?si=ve3TXkhqZ9feMvUp

Well that NE buster on Sunday pretty much put paid to the viz and conditions we had on Saturday which were divable… Meh!

Loads of groundswell was generated by big stacked NE swell from Sunday all the way through to this morning. Things have settled nicely this arvo (Tuesday) and we have a Dr SW wind blowing tomorrow which should bring in the cleaner water especially south and maybe middle to upper north coast.

SN current in the main today with a light NS current from Hibberdene and further south thereof. Hibberdene to Port Edward 19 degC and Park Rynie and north thereof 22 degC water temperature today. 22.5 deg C off the shoal atm with a light SN current.

Nothing fantastic came out Saturday but I heard Brusher and Stumpies are fullup ATM and Daga salmon are still on the bite out deep.

We have a low tide at 08h30 and a high tide at 14h42 tomorrow with new Moon on Friday and spring tides on Saturday.

There is blue water pushing in on the north coast from Westbrook to salties hopefully the SW wind tomorrow pushes it inshore for a dive!

Bear KZN sea report Ballistic weather Saturday

Bear KZN sea report Ballistic weather Saturday

Hi peeps and welcome to another Bear report brought to you by Mydo bait swimmers and fish Bazaruto.com .

Online YouTube report available here…
https://youtu.be/r8qaZFILDog?si=dMee7MnrCJgh4PRt

We have had some rather large surf this week which calmed down yesterday to 1.8m.
Swell has picked up a little today (Friday) with the good Dr SW wind blowing all day at around 20knts.

There was colour showing off Umhlanga this morning and Scottburgh. Overcast ATM so it’s hard to tell if it’s good however you don’t know unless you go!

Saturday we have ballistic weather with only a 5knt due E wind in the afternoon. Swell starts at 1.8m and drops off to 1.5m by high tide at 13h00.

Sunday a banger NE wind blows from early bells picking the swell up to 3.5m in the afternoon… meh!

So Saturday is the day and the Daga salmon and Brusher should be fullup in the shallows with the off colour to the water. Garrick and snoek should be around especially close to open river mouth’s from Umkomaas area and further up north coast.

Tomorrow the trick will be either hitting a boat dive out deep past the murk or diving closer to high tide when the sun is up and you can see the viz better. Sea temps are up to 22/23degC from Hibberdene and north thereof so there has to be some clean water pushing in.

The weekend was definitely divable with viz from Bluff to lower south coast but the rain started Sunday and only just stopped here by me in Durban.

South coast got less rain than north coast were it’s still raining as I write this. Eish (not cool). Mud coming out of a few rivers including Scottburgh and Umdloti rivers.

Not all bad though because this is what pulls the mackerel down our way in numbers!

We have big surf today (Tuesday) and tomorrow starts at 2.2m and end’s up around 2.8m being pushed by the SW wind. We currently have a 14knt southerly blowing here in Durban and sea temps are around 22 degC.

Lower south coast temps are still around 20 to 19 degC with the NS current still onnit. North Coast temps are up around 22 degC.

Tomorrow the SW blows all day gaining strength from morning to afternoon blowing harder in the south than the north.

Brusher were definitely around this weekend well done Master Louis Schourie and Renier Kruger on some nice fish speared this weekend. Daga salmon and Geelbek are still on the bite and will be moving into the river mud to feed!

Tide’s for tomorrow are high at 07h00 and 19h00 and low tide at 13h00. Neeps on Thursday with only a 20cm difference in the tides!

So the NE wind belted away midweek but the good Dr SW wind is onnit today (Friday) at 20knts and we have a reverse SN current of 1knt. This should bring the warmer cleaner water in on the coast.

North Coast is pretty trashed so I wouldn’t hold out hope for that side. South coast on the other hand is showing colour already and the large NE swell has been replaced by 2m even swell from the south!

Warmest areas are from Toti to Park Rynie… further south 19, north and Durban 20 degC. We have high tide at 04h26 and 17h40 tomorrow with low tide at 10h20. Spring tides today and it was full moon last night. Good for fishing,

Light East wind tomorrow arvo switching around to a light SE wind Sunday morning and picking up through the day making it choppy and lifting the swell to 2m plus. Saturday morning 1.4m swell from the south picking up to 1,6m in the arvo.

Garrick are around and feeding both on the backline and out on the deeper marks holding bait fish. Wahoo are on the shoal, well done Ginger on a 18kg Wahoo on rod and reel, Daga salmon on the bite usual marks along with the Geelbek and Cape Yellowtail. Brusher should be shoaling on the point’s and in the gullies.

Well done Renier Kruger on a slab Garrick 14.3kg gutted down south by Margate/Uvongo. Aweh!

Well yes the weekend was divable with some good fish coming out down south coast. Well done Jerone and Rinalen with some class bottom fsh Daga salmon, Black musselcracker, Cape and Natal knifejaw and Pink Bank Steenbras!

Aslo down south coast but on Sunday after the water turned a bit miff with a strong NS current USC and Hibiscus Spearfishing Club had a north vs South mini compo and North won through the day! Well done Ashley and Richardt from USC taking the day on hibiscus home grounds. Team hibiscus was Don Solomon and sons with Kurt Bungy.

Seems like some snoek action in Zululand well done Master Juggs showing us how it’s done! Apparently the water very lekker up that way.

Last two days SW wind been bashing us with some size swell this morning. It’s dropped off now but wind still onnit at around 20knts SW.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we have NE wind pulling in towards lunch time and blowing right though to Thursday evening. We have full moon on Thursday and spring tides on Friday.

Tide is low at 08h45 and high at 14h50 tomorrow with a 1.8m swell running at 9 seconds from the south.

Current ATM is SN 1.5knt south coast and 1knt North Coast. South warmer at 22 degC and north average around 20 degC.

Online YouTube report available here…
https://youtu.be/vdygzYqry5I?si=wAZIQKHuYIQUTyVB

Shoh and the Beast East blew hard this week putting the washing machine in action on the inshore conditions! But the SW Dr wind has been onnit today with sea temps picking up and the surf flattening out!

We have ballistic conditions this weekend with 1.4m swell Saturday and 1.2m swell on Sunday! Wind? What wind! Only a light E wind Saturday arvo and a light SW wind midday on Sunday.

We are coming off neap tides with full moon on Thursday next week. Low tide is at 05h17 and high tide at 12h10 on Saturday so a dive towards lunch time will probably be best with warmer cleaner water pushing in.

There are plenty Brusher and Garrick around on the south coast! Well done Renier Kruger on a lovely brace of Brusher and a decent Garrick on the weekend in those choppy East conditions. Aweh!

The usual suspects are out deep Daga salmon, Geelbek, Cape Yellowtail and even rumours of yellowfin tuna around on the north coast! If the sea temps hit 22 degC in the shallows Snoek should be around as well.

Thoughts and prayers to the crew of the Sharks board boat which capsized off Isipingo on the south coast this morning. They were all rescued and sent off to hospital in a stable condition.

So the NE wind on the weekend did mess the inshore up but there was some viz on the lower to middle south coast on Sunday. Just quite rough around the backline area. Monday we had a buster SW which has warmed the water to 22 degC today (Tues).

But the NE wind today swung the swell around and it made some groundswell of note. There is colour though on the south coast!

Swell will still be up through to Friday midday when the NE wind gives way to a SW Dr wind just In Time for the weekend. Tide’s are nearly neaps with a high at 06h30 and a low at 12h30 tomorrow.

Garrick are biting well on the south coast and local with plenty Brusher around the bricks in the shallows. Daga salmon and Cape Yellowtail are out in the deep and even some Dorado coming out further up north coast.

Well done Master Richardt with a decent Daga salmon on a shoredive down south and Master Louis Schourie with a Garrick Brusher combo local this week!

So conditions did improve remarkably from Monday with Thursday and this morning (Friday) being mint comparatively! South coast has had the fish and north coast seems pretty quiet in comparison.

But! The NE wind has been onnit today and is turning the inshore into a washing machine. Oh boy! But if it drops off before 9pm tonight tomorrow should be diveable on the deeper spots down south.

We have another NE wind picking up midmorning on Saturday and blasting through after lunch. Sunday we have light to moderate NE wind but nothing like this afternoon or Saturday afternoon.

The swell sticks to around 1.8m 7 seconds from the SE Saturday morning switching to 2m from the NE at 6 seconds after midmorning. Sunday 2m swell at 7 seconds from the NE.

Sea temps balmy around Umkomaas area at 22.5 degrees C and 21 to 22 further south. North colder at 20 to 21 degrees C. Current has switched today to light to moderate NS.

Guys are catching well off the point’s on the south coast with Brusher, Stumpies, Garrick, Springer, Half kob and Daga salmon coming out.

Rudie DuToit has been the man of the hour this week with a Garrick and Springer combo earlier in the week and a lovely Daga salmon today on the south coast! Well done Aweh!

So with the doom and gloom weather that was predicted for Sunday and today the sea has faired pretty well conditions wize with just some large swell banging through on the south coast today (Monday).

Yes we had rain and a blasting SW wind yesterday but the sea temps are up from 19 degrees to 21/21.5 degree C in the main with just lower south coast at 20 degrees C.

Current wise SN from middle South coast and up with lower south coast a NS current onnit. Surf is predicted to jack a bit to 3m at 11am tomorrow with a light to moderate SW wind switching to Southerly in the afternoon. Swell runs at 13 seconds from the south.

We have a low tide at 09h00 and a high tide at 15h20 tomorrow with a new Moon on Wednesday bringing in the spring tides.

North Coast is still very green but there’s good colour from Bluff down to past Scottburgh!

Well done Brett on his 1st Brusher of the season, Gordon with a Garrick and Master Louis Schourie with a GT and a bus Fulvie kingie!

When the fulvie kingies pull in its time for the Garrick return run and the Big bull shark’s to pull in on those 18 to 30m pinnacles. So beware peeps!

Well the wind blasted and the rain came down with snow all over the Drakensberg mountains over the long weekend. Damage to North Coast conditions was heavy but south coast from Scottburgh down is still good to go!

Rocky bay area yesterday was clean clean but some hectic surf pushing right to the beach. Two brave souls Tim and Louis decided to swim and after a while managed to get out into some crystal clear water getting some Rockcod and smaller bottom fish. Well done lads Aweh!

At the Border open on the weekend it was decided to call off the compo on Saturday due to large seas and min viz. This decision was passed around the various campsites by word of mouth due to there being no cell phone reception.

Melvin Pillay apparently did not receive this news and bright and early on Sunday morning went for his shoredive to compete in the compo and bagged a lovely stringer of fish! Aweh Melvin showing the lad’s on the boat’s how it’s done Durban styles!

Bruce and Pete decided to skip and run further north for a boat dive and Bruce managed to bag a lovely Wahoo! Aweh nicely done lads!

At the moment we have neap tides with a low 04h20 and a high tide at 12h20 tomorrow (Thursday). Predicted NE wind to pick up tomorrow mid morning and swell at 1.7m 9 seconds from the SE. Should be smaller than that though but will build during the day tomorrow.

Sea temps hovering around 19 to 20 degree’s C and a bit warmer at 21 to 22 degC middle south coast with light NS current in the main.

So yeah dive on for tomorrow morning heading South!

Shoh! The SW wind blasted yesterday and the rain and the swell came through pretty much trashing the north coast viz with still a bit of colour down south coast today.

Quinton in Coffee bay Transkei say’s that the is sea looking horrible there compared to yesterday morning with heavy rain and swell this morning. Hopefully the guys down there for Border Spearfishing open compo can maybe get a dive in come Sunday!

We have a light SW blowing now Friday afternoon with some rain and 2.5m plus swell running at 10 second’s. Sea temps around 20 to 21 deg C and light to moderate SN current.

Saturday a light to moderate SW wind blows with rain through to the afternoon when it clears up a bit. Swell starts at 2.6m and drops off towards the afternoon.

Sunday pretty much no wind till afternoon when a light NE wind picks up with swell starting at 2.2m and dropping to 1.8m in the afternoon.

Fish wise there’s a few been coming out! Well done Daanie Cilliers with a 10kg Garrick Bluff, Rudie DuToit with a slab 11.5kg Brusher and next dive a decent Garrick and Brusher combo, Noah Whittle with a lovely brace of Brusher in town, Jerone Govender with a Blacktip Kingfish and a lovely brace of Brusher on a second dive in Ballito.

Croc Couta? Yes! Donovan Carstens managed a little getaway to Zululand and smacked a beautiful 30kg specimen! Aweh Donnie u biscuit!

So ja doom n gloom for most of the weekend but maybe some hope for Sunday funday! Definitely some fish around so worth a look if you have the time.

Yoh! And the sea came right Sunday through to today! South coast is mint conditions ATM with a glassy 2 to 3ft wave and clean warmer water!

We have had a bit of rain though and it was dark and gloomy this morning but the sun did poke it’s head out for a bit with the rain just a drizzle.

The NE wind predicted this Arvo has backed off quite a bit and conditions looking pearler down south coast in the morning with 3 to 4ft wave’s at 13 second’s from the south east.

We have full moon tomorrow and full spring tides on Thursday with a low tide of minus 0.002m! This combined with a fresh to strong SW wind on Thursday and rain predicted till Friday Arvo will probably nuke the decent conditions we have been having. Oh boy and the front comes with 10 to max 15ft wave’s…agh no Man!

On the fish front we have young Noah Whittle with a bus GT on a shoredive over the weekend! Paul THB with a decent Yellow tail on the Bluff Sunday and Master Richardt Botes with a decent Brusher also Bluff on Sunday.

Then stealing the show we have Master Louis Schourie with a slab Daga salmon of 44kg! And he roled it! Aweh buddy! More to follow on the story of the fish here at a later date!

There are Garrick shoals around ATM in the 5 to 8kg range middle to upper south coast and the Brusher are definitely around in the same area. Further south the guys have been getting some Shad early in the morning.

So we have had the usual spring weather this week with a bit of swell coming through although not un swimable for the brave!

Definitely some decent colour to the water down south ATM but the high pressure system off our coast today generated some nasty low frequency surf up and down the coast with it being larger the further you travel up north.

Some warmer water has swung into the Durban basin area with some viz overnight so I would recommend some night fishing from Luggs to South pier tonight! Aslo a late Arvo dive around the PWC area by North pier and Vetches reef.

Copper Steenbras are still around today (well done Garreth and crew!) and Shad should be around in the foamy midbreak but bear in mind that there was a strong sidewash to the North this morning.

Well done Rudie on a decent Garrick and Natal snoek shot yesterday down south when the swell dropped a bit yesterday! Aweh.

We have a sneaky SW wind coming through this evening after the SE wind that’s blowing this arvo. The SW wind drops off tomorrow morning after it swings the swell around to 1.7m from the South at 9 seconds. Swell drops off during the day making the arvo better than the morning on Saturday.

Sunday is a pearler day with light variable wind all day and 1.4m swell at 10 second’s from the south! We have low tide after 7 in the morning and high tide after 1pm so diving the pushing tide should do the trick!

Well yes Natal champs was held this last weekend Saturday and Master John Girzda placed 1st (4th time on the trophy) followed in 2nd place by Noah Whittle and Master Sean Burns in 3rd place! Well done lads Aweh!

Conditions were flat but cold with some current and lower in the viz range which makes shoredive challenging to say the least! But us KZN divers are fit and fish were weighed in. There were awesome prizes from Rob Allen, Freedivers, Spearmaster and Blackfin floats by Warren Blackmore!

Well done Master Alistair Jones on getting the compo done and dusted. Aweh from the Bear!

Fish wise Brusher, Copper Steenbras and Daga salmon with Geelbek are around. Shad are moving up North to spawn off Zululand and the Garrick are following along.

Well done Connie on a bus Brusher in the Transkei, Rudie on a Decent Brusher south coast and Dieter fishing out deeper with a slab Copper Steenbras!

Weather for tomorrow (Wednesday )looks great with minimal swell and a light NE wind in the afternoon . Sea temps still down around 19C and current moderate to strong NS.

Neaps are on Thursday so not much tidal difference ATM and we have a high tide at 07h30 and a low tide at 13h30 tomorrow.

Swell is down to 1.5m from the south and will remain that way till the NE tomorrow (Saturday) pick’s it up again.
We have a low tide at 08h42 and a high at 14h52 with spring tides next week Wednesday.

The NE blows through the night and into most of Sunday so Saturday morning early bells is the best bet for some fish this weekend!

Well I have some good news and bad news. The good news is the swell finally dropped today and the sea has calmed.

The bad news is we are in for a proper cold front tonight bringing with it moderate to fresh SW and 4. Swell!
Aslo inshore is poked for diving today but looks good for Daga salmon fishing tonight before the SW pulls through.

Fish wise there are catches here and there but nothing significant to report besides Heath Houston with two decent Spotted Grunter yesterday in the Durban area. Aweh Heath!

August brings in the changes from winter to spring so we almost always have windy conditions with swell as the high and low pressure systems cycle through.

The swell continues through to the end of the weekend with NE winds dominating Friday through to Sunday evening.

MEH!
