And then the Sardines arrived! Damn I was only 2days off with my prediction of 2nd to 3rd of June! All the action started down at Port Edward with netting on Saturday last weekend and then the action spread up the coast rapidly during the last 3 days and today there were Sardines off the Bluff and in the Durban bay!
Wow those little fella’s move fast with the big swell! South coast has had proper winter surf and the Sardines ride the waves! So if you thinking of hitting KZN to check out the Sardines this weekend will be the bomb with excellent weather forecast both Saturday and Sunday.
Today the surf was flat North but still good couple rollers coming in down South and a SN current onnit…more speed for the Sardines! Viz wise North has been max 5m and murkier with Garrick, Couta and Snoek around.
Down south there are fish with the Sardines mainly Garrick, GT’s and Snoek and of course loads of Sharks! However with the swell and current viz has not been that great. One of the 1st nets pulled at Port Edward had no less than 17 sharks in whith the load of Sardines!
Well done Garryd Ensor on winning the Umdloti Ski Boat club Couta compo (Fishing and Spearfishing) with a lekker Croc Couta of 28kg plus change! Well done Byron Kane with a new PB Croc Couta of 31.47kg on the north coast! Well done Master Richardt Botes and Christo Muller with Garrick and snoek north coast! Well done Tongaat fisherman with some decent Garrick caught at Tongaat river mouth (Thanks Wayne’s fishing for the pic). Aweh lads!
Bad news is we have swell arriving with tomorrow’s SW blow upto 3m…and a moderate NE wind on Thursday… however the weekend is going to be ballistic weather wise.
Sea temps North are between 21 to 23 degC with colder water down south between 19 and 21 degC. Current is moderate to strong SN South and light to moderate SN north.
We are on neap tide’s with low tide at 04h40/16h45 and high tide at 10h40 tomorrow. North might still be okay for a dive early bells tomorrow before the SW wind comes through with the swell a lot smaller than South.
As always dive safe and straight spears from the Bear.
