Well Sardines have been rampant on the south coast all the way from Port Edward to Bluff near Durban. Swell has been tough south however the guy’s still pulled some proper nets of Sardines!
If you want to go down Sardine hunting this weekend I would start in the Toti Warner beach area at around 8am. Just remember to guard your valuables in the parking and to give the netters space to work. If there’s good hauls they will always put a couple of crates aside for bystanders to get some as well!
We have some great weather this weekend and the swell is minimal, 1.4m Saturday and 1.6m on Sunday, with offshore wind in the morning. Saturday arvo a light onshore blows and Sunday a light to moderate SW wind blows from around 10am.
South coast was looking ultra flat and lekker this afternoon from the east bumped mess it was this morning. North coast is also flat however not much viz around at 2 to 3m . South has viz around the 5m mark and the Aliwal shoal was NS current today 12 to 15m viz.
Sea temps are around 21 degC dropping to 19 degC lower south coast.
Fish wise there’s plenty sharks with the Sardines middle to lower south coast and Snoek, Kingfish species and Garrick north thereof.
Offshore is a different story! Henko Roukema is up at Vidal and reports that there’s 8 to 10m viz with some trophy fish around. Well done Henko on a bus Prodigal/Cobia and a lekker Croc Couta and Henno Lubbe in the water with a decent Wahoo! Aweh lads.
Local KZN last week Master Liam Mullaney managed to get himself a proper Croc Couta on the north coast! Aweh!
Top diver of the moment is Zayne Revel hitting two boat dives on the weekend on the South coast and getting 3 Wahoo and a Couta on Saturday and Sunday another Wahoo! Top diving Zayno Aweh Aweh Aweh!
So as you can see there’s plenty reasons to get wet this weekend!
As always dive safe and straight spears from the Bear
