Yoh! We have had some epic diving and spearfishing conditions this week with viz upto 20m in places with temps between 22 and 23 degC! However a nasty cold front was predicted with swells supposed to be nearing the 4.5m mark today!

Thank our lucky stars the swell was not listening to those predictions! Things have calmed down beautifully this afternoon with a light southerly blowing. Scottburgh is looking over lekker and I had to wait a while for a wave to check out the viz!

North coast not looking the same though with Westbrook looking the best at about 4m viz and a bit of swell. Ballito Sheffield green with swell and Umdloti and Umhlanga green as well although manageable swell there.

Fish action has been Wild on the south coast with multiple Sailfish being caught and released even heard one chap speared a 66kg Sailfish which eclipses the South African record by a fair bit! Master Gavin Nel managed to swim upto a Marlin and touch it as well as a saily on one day’s outing!

Guy’s have been getting quality Couta and Yellowfin tuna on ski’s off Scottburgh and Toti with rock and surf fishermen getting plenty Snoek, Kingfish and Garrick between Toti and Umkomaas where most of the inshore Sardine action has been happening this week.

With fish from last week we have Christo Muller with a Snoek Westbrook, Tyrone from Dive South Africa with a lekker Blacktip kingie Surf casting Toti and Kezley Fitzgerald with a decent Seapike diving south! Aweh lads!

With fish this week we have Noah Whittle with a bus Wahoo Cape Vidal, Gerald with a Geelbek Toti, The Bear with a decent Couta 18.14kg Bluff, Zander Erasmus with a class White Steenbras of just under 12kg, Master John Girzda with a new PB Croc Couta of 31kg and Master Louis Schourie with two class shore diving fish an Eelskin rockcod and a 5kg Rock salmon! Aweh lads!

Saturday we have a light offshore in the morning switching to a light to moderate NE wind in the arvo with swell starting at 1.9m and dropping off to 1.6m in the afternoon at 12 seconds from the south. Tides are high at 05h30/17h53 and low at 11h51.

Sunday has minimal light wind with swell running at 1.5m 11 seconds from the south.

Umhlanga Spearfishing club has postponed the Crayfish comp till Sunday and you can still enter tonight and tomorrow at R280.pp. Check pics for details some lekker prizes with weigh in at PWSC washbay area from 14h30 onwards.

So ja if you have time this weekend hit the water! It’s happening!

As always dive safe and straight spears from the Bear
